Don't Let the Door Stop You

This is the final day of the double hop She Who Sews and Don't Let the Door Stop You. There have been some very creative and beautiful projects shared.

I was not going to do this hop. My original intention was to take a break and get some of the other projects on my long list of Things to Do...done. But, when I saw Sunbonnet Sue, I immediately emailed Carla and practically begged to be let into this hop. You see, the only room I need a doorstop in is my bedroom, and I just knew what fabric I would pull from my stash. I used leftover floral fabric from when I shortened the premade floral curtains I had purchased. And the plaid (?) fabric is from a recycled bedskirt from this set as well.

Then, during the hop, another blogger presented Sunbonnet Sue for her project. And a stunning Sue she was. Silly me, I let myself feel intimidated and thought that maybe, I should do a different door stop. Not that I am as design creative as I would like to be, I used another free pattern, but changed it up a bit by using a cross-stitch piece (Vicky Ramage on Craftsy) and I just love how it turned out.

Lesson learned? Do the best you can regardless....so here is Sue. Still in a state of disarray and undress...held together with pins. Will post a picture once she is done. Hoping to have time tomorrow to finish her up!

Until then, thank you Carla and Mdm. Samm for another fun filled adventure...and be sure to visit today's list of wonderful and creative projects!

  8. Your cross stitch heart is wonderful and I think it's a great doorstop. But I love that you have reached the point that you are saying don't let others' work intimidate you. Sew for yourself, the things that make you happy. I frequently look at the work of others and wish I could sew that well, dream such wonderful dreams, create those amazing things, but then I remember that God made each of us to be different and unique so what we make is also different and unique! blessings, marlene

  20. Your cross stitch is beautiful! And don't worry about having the same project as someone else. It is always fun to see someone else's version of the same thing. Each individual puts their own spin on a pattern, whether it be tweaking it a bit or just using different fabrics. Think back to the Tammy Bag blog hop. Everyone had to use the same pattern and what a fun hop that was. And remember these blog hops are not a competition to see who sews the best, they are a fun way to get us inspired and learn new things.

  29. Both door stops are wonderful. You choose wonderful fabrics for Sue, She shows promise and I think she will be lovely when finished. You've done great work. The lesson I've learned when creating is to never compare yourself to others for it will quickly take the wind out of your sails.

  40. Thank you for the compliment, first of all. :) At the same time, I didn't mean to make you feel intimidated. Ya know my biggest worry about Blog Hops is the same as yours. I may see something like what I'm doing and I will worry that mine won't be as good. I am not someone tho who would walk away, I would stand up, hold my head up high, and even if it was the worst darn thing I could produce, I'd still be there copy or not. :) One has to realize there is no way that you could have known what someone else is doing. Even in the Think Ruffles blog hop, I've already seen some of what I am doing, but mine is done.. I'm not starting a new project just because someone else has done some and I kinda knew that I'd probably see some .. I'd say, but I still want that element of surprise, ya know :)

Either or, I hope you will finish your Sunbonnet Sue and I hope you will email me when you do. I to love Sunbonnet Sue. :)

Great Job on the doorstop you did do.. Hugs!!
