Black Tie Boogie ~ my day

Woo hoo, cluck cluck! Today is my day to strut and peck and show my stuff!

Thank you to plucky head cheerleader

http://morestarsincomanche.blogspot.ca/
she is such a good egg!

 and of course
http://www.sewwequilt.com/
who leaves such an indelible impression! And a very special thank you to our sponsors...Red Rooster Fabrics, Radical Roosters, and Bird Brain Designs!

I've been wanting to make a table runner for some time now. I took a simple and free pattern, and combined my love of chicken fabric, gingham fabric and added a couple of fun yo yos to create...

 It is snowing outside...
guess I got some snow on my camera LOL

In the works are also some hexagon placemats using Debby Kratovil's awesome Twisted Hexagon Blocks pattern and spiderweb template ruler. Thank you Debby for coming to my rescue while I tried to work out this pattern. Once I stopped being such a Nervous Nellie...it got easier to "see" what I was supposed to do!

And the most awesome, new to me project, is a set of red gingham curtains in my dining room. They have been sitting there very quietly since last Christmas when I sewed them up. I now have to come clean, I have been "chicken scratching". No, not scratching chickens...though Wilma Wishbone sure loves a good belly rub LOL but rather, a form of embroidery on gingham called Chicken Scratch embroidery...aka Depression or Amish lace. This is something I have been wanting to do for some time, and have finally begun. I have to admit I absolutely love doing this form of embroidery! And I cannot wait to finish this project so I can begin another. I would love to get some of these books as well...just look at the gorgeous rooster!

The curtain on the right shows what the curtain looked like before I started embroidering, and the left is my progress.

And here is a close up of my progress. I have the top row of woven circles to complete, and 2 1/2 rows of the woven ovals. It actually works up quite quickly all things considered.

I got the pattern from here. I would love to try the double colour on something...perhaps I have some aprons to make up...a lady can never have too many aprons LOL

Ok, enough about me...time to move on the next hens on the list...

Dr. Who update...

Am I finished...nope. I had been rolling along rather well, but took a break to work on another upcoming blog hop project. I am currently finishing block #12...I did a combined photo of

the two pages in the photo...leaving out the circular thingy. I did finish embroidering block #3 and block #8...but I still have to add sayings to more than a few of the blocks. Actually, this is not easy...Block #8 was only around for one show, and some of the others did not really have any repetitive sayings...but I will persevere and find "something" to put.

I went out and purchased some plain black fabric for the backing. I'm leaning towards using the stripe fabric for the binding..and I'm totally, insanely, considering attempting to applique a tardis on the back. Could I just use double sided fusible stuff or would I have to the applique on as well? Guess I'll have to google it...wouldn't want the Tardis to fall off in the night LOL

We (my son and I) watched the special yesterday. It was good...since we have it on the PVR I'm sure we will watch it again. New estimated completion date is for the Christmas special coming up in December...I'm sure he will let me know when that is...will update with photos soon as I complete the quilt top :)

GERONIMO!

Welcome to Quebec . . . Canadian Quilters Blogathon

If you are here via the blog party, or just because you may have taken a wrong turn....

Welcome!

I live here with my husband, 16 year old son, and 70 year old father in a quickly growing village, about an hour's drive outside of Montreal. We used to be more rural, but that is quickly changing...progress eh? I guess I'll become "okay with change" if and when we get ourselves a serious fabric store!!

I love to dabble in many things, and am seriously proficient in none. I like knitting, mainly dishcloths and other small projects, a tidbit of crochet, cross-stitch, sewing---skirts for myself mainly, and of course curtains and such. I am sew hoping to finally teach myself to knit socks sometime this winter...seems I knit them inside out and can't for the life of me straighten them out LOL

I also love to garden---perennial flowers, vegetables, small fruit trees. My favourite time of year is Spring. I find it amazing to watch the world come back to life after such a long deep freeze...and of course I get to play in the dirt again...the joy of any gardener.

 Marigold started from seed

I just love the variety of colour of lilies...
and of irises.

Last January we had such a deep freeze...everything was coated in ice!

I am a newbie to the quilting world. I have one quilt completed...a gift for my sister-in-law.

I am seriously not a photographer but the love that went into creating this quilt was beyond enormous; and so many prayers for health.

The second quilt in my 2 quilt arsenal is not yet completed...but somehow will be for my son for tomorrow...

He just loves Dr. Who and the 50 year anniversary special is tomorrow.

Thank you sew for stopping by. I have really enjoyed this Blogathon...there are so many creative sewers, crafters, and quilters out there. Thank you for your inspiration!

Thank you to

My Day "For The Boys" - Day Six

Welcome all blog hoppers.

So glad you took a moment to stop by and see my entry...
 Thank you Head Cheerleader
of Sew Incredibly Crazy and the creative
of Sew We Quilt.  And of course our sponsors...Camelot Fabrics.

I took such a time debating on whether or not I would actually join this hop, and once I decided to join, I then found the most perfect idea for my son...

mmmhhhh, mmmhhhh, mmmhhh.

This is me trying to talk with my mouth full, after biting off a project that has proved to be more than I can chew. LOL  I learned I embroider a lot slower than thought...you know how sometimes a project doesn't appear so large until you actually get into it? Well...

My son loves Dr. Who and the 50 year anniversary is fast approaching. We will be watching the special together on Saturday, November 23 and this project WILL BE DONE for this special event.

Here is my project...

This is a free pattern from Fandom in Stitches. The blue grey fabric were an old set of sheets belonging to my son, and the planet fabric was once a set of curtains in his room.

I started out just backstitching all the figures, then I got the bright idea of adding in a saying they are most known for. Boy, I sure like that a lot.

Not sure which image I will use for 12...I've also found one with the doctor from 12 plus the Tardis. Choices, choices, choices!

Number 10 is my personal favourite incarnation of the Doctor.

Still to finish are squares 3, 8, and 12...and perhaps add a few more sayings. Time will tell ;)

Hope you enjoyed your visit. My first quilt top of this size, plus embroidery...phew. I think I should have joined that Aiming for Accuracy SAL, my points in no way match up, and I've probably made every sewing error possible, but I am in love with this quilt, and I can't wait to see my son's face when I give it to him.
